EDCI 270 Theme

I chose kindergarten for my grade focus and English/Language Arts as my subject. My theme will focus on reading foundations which include print concepts, phonological awareness, and decoding. There are nine total standards that comply with this theme. (Pictured below).

English/Language Arts is my passion and I particularly love phonics and grammar. I was placed in a kindergarten classroom for my field experience this semester, so I found it appropriate to pick that grade. Ideally, I would love to teach 2nd grade but for this course I will be focusing on kindergarten. 

Some children do not get the opportunity of attending preschool, so they do not learn to read left to right or how to hold a book physically in their hands before entering kindergarten. It is important that they learn these things immediately at the start of kindergarten so that they will be successful in learning how to recognize letters of the alphabet and new words within a book. Learning the fundamentals of literacy is crucial. Part of learning to read is learning sounds of letters and putting them together to form words. There is a lot of blending and decoding related to phonological awareness. Technology can play a part in helping young children learn these things.

Here is an interactive video activity that can help kindergarten students understand the basic steps in learning to read. In this activity, YouTube is used to aid in presenting information to young students about the concepts of print when learning to read a book. The teacher can pause the video and have students physically turn to the front of the book, the back, point to the author, point to the page number, etc. Another idea would be using the same book, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" to follow along.

Out of all three websites this would be last on my list because there is not much information included and I personally feel like she could have included more about the classroom or what a remote learning day could look like.  Most Effective Sections The website provides a home section with information about the Kindergarten teacher. It has a grading policy section to show how students will be graded. It also has a contact information section with her email, phone number, and ClassTag invite message. Finally, it includes a schedule section with the daily schedule and specials schedule. The links to click on for each section all work and there are no glitches. Answer: iMovie and Powtoons are free to use at any time and wevideo is free but you can only publish 5 min of video content per month. I like to use free applications that do not cost money and are simple to use. ·        What types of graphics, music, animations, videos, etc. can be readily and legally accessed and integrated within your produced videos? Answer: Graphics can be found from Google Search, music can be accessed through YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, etc. Animations can be found from Google Search, and videos can be found from YouTube.
